After so long…

…I’m still here, maintain this blog. I recently had one of these moments of doubt, when the renewal bill for my web hosting came up. Should I renew, or should I just make a backup and take this offline? I have lots of pictures here. And the worrying thing is I have lots others that maybe deserve a better place here than instagram. I don’t post pictures as often as years ago. I can see the frequency of publishing going down, from 2013 to today. Maybe weeks, months, pass between one post or the next. Also I don’t feel compelled to write about whatever comes to my mind as I did in the past. Those of you who may know me in real life know what is going on, and there is no need to disclose more details. I’ve been very busy with VFX work, that is something I can say. Also practising drums and guitar, another creative outlet of mine. Less so doing trips with my daughter, as she has started university and I’m suffering a bit of empty nest syndrome. I’m also assisting to a philosophy meetup here in Cambridge, we have discussed many topics so far, maybe I can write about some of the most thought provoking questions?

One thing that maybe I will do is write a bit about some photo books I’ve been collecting lately. I find these books to be a great source of inspiration and learning. This is the best way to see what has been done and who has done it. Saul Leiter, Salgado, Willian Eggleston, Lartigue and many others, are now occupying space in my bookshelf, and also many times I think, why should I even bother to take this or that sunset picture? I still see photography as a very personal way of expression though, and concerns about who makes it better and other technicalities are very pretty much irrelevant to me. Maybe you might be interested to see what books I like?

Going back to this blog, I’ve recently did a bit of refurbishment. I bought a new portfolio theme called Minimalio, that I really like. Has many possibilities to do a very simple, but I think elegant, looking kind of site. And I have gone thought the almost 300 posts making sure that most of them have a similar format. Still there are a few I still need to fix some missing pictures, mostly from films, or other things I linked from external sites that after many years, have disappeared. Curiosly enough, some of those old posts are have been very popular, with many more visits than others. Who would have though that writing a bit about Rendezvous with Rama would be so interesting!

I’ve implemented a portfolio in the homepage. What I’ve done here is just adding some small projects of mine, selections of pictures that have been used in group exhibitions I’ve participated. Or submissions to contests. Sometimes the pictures didn’t go anywhere, but I did put some effort making the edit and other people have given me in cases some very good feedback about them.

And I keep my prints shop open. In the picture, a recent print I prepared for an exhibition I will participate in London next February. Its not yet available for buying, but it will be soon. Maybe I will do a blog post about it.
