In the summer of 2021 I went with my daughter to Bath, Somerset, UK. Here is a gallery of snapshot from this trip. It is a beautiful city, with interesting Roman history. Also, as we noticed while we were there, it can get quite crowded during holidays. I guess it was that time a bit after the worst of the pandemic, when people wanted to visit places in the country, instead of going abroad. We stayed in an Airbnb not too far from the city centre. The perception of distances in this city is a bit different. Points of interest that seemed to be close on the map, they happened to be after some step hills, and for someone used to the flatness of Cambridge, walking the city of Bath was an effort. Driving here must be difficult too, I can’t imagine cycling. One thing I noticed was the almost monochromatic look of the city, all the buildings have the same stone color, and it’s also for a reason.
The weather was great, the views amazing and our host at the Airbnb gave us many local tips and insights. We realized that didn’t book in advance a visit to the Roman baths, precisely the touristic/historic attraction that defines this place. Oh well, I guess there will be another trip sometime soon.
Speaking of trips, I’m planning to move again. Some personal things are going on that will probably lead me to the north of the country. More updates soon!
